![]() ![]() In Short:There’s an awful lot of recycled content here, but if you like Zombies mode this is still an essential, if potentially expensive, download. And for Call Of Duty fans that’s all that really matters. But then the Call Of Duty map packs have always been a critic-proof mix of the generous and the exploitative. In most respects this doesn’t count as great value for money, but the maps certainly are a good deal of fun. Meanwhile, the astronaut zombies are similar in concept to George Romero from Call Of The Dead: appearing randomly on the map and proving extremely difficult to take down.Given the variables involved here – whether you’re getting it for free, whether you’ve played the World At War levels before, whether you even like Zombies or are good enough at it to appreciate Moon – a score here is largely meaningless. ![]() The phasing zombie is an irritating Albert Wesker type that flickers in and out of existence around you. ![]() So hitting a zombie in the face with a shotgun will see him go flying halfway across a level, while trying to control your own movement and stop yourself from skidding into every crowd of the undead you meet proves a lot harder than on terra firma. As you’d expect there’s plenty of Zombies’ usual dry humour and hidden plot elements, but there’s also two new zombie types as well. Despite the inherent silliness of the concept Moon does actually take its setting quite seriously, including the fact that the gravity is very much lower than on Earth.Because it’s not zero gravity all the normal rules still apply, they’ve just been exaggerated. It’s extremely difficult right from the first moment, although the fact that it doesn’t suffer from the slow build-up common to many of the other maps is a welcome change of pace.Once actually on the moon (you start the map waiting for a transporter to power up) the first problem isn’t zombies but the fact that you can’t breathe and desperately need to find a space helmet. But by and large these are exactly the same maps as were first released in 2009.As for Moon, it’s an excellent level, definitely one of the best, but it’s also clearly been designed for veterans of the series. The basics are still the same though: survive for as long as possible with three friends, as you desperately try to set up traps and barricades against waves of the undead – as well as open up new areas and access to new weapons. The graphics have been given a nip and tuck and there are now some Cold War era weapons in there too. As you might guess they’re still based around World At War’s Second World War setting, with a mix of Nazi and Japanese zombies.Since World At War was the first time the Zombies concept had been introduced these maps are a little more simplistic than some of the more recent examples, particularly Nacht der Untoten. The fifth map, set on the moon, is completely new and a considerable amount of effort has gone into making it something special – but it’s still true that it’s the only original content in the download. The four World At War maps are Nacht der Untoten (Night of the Undead), Verruckt (Insane), Der Riese (The Giant) and Shi no Numa (Swamp of Death). (In either case you also get a desktop theme and a download code for the soundtrack.)The other big difference is that it contains nothing but Zombies maps, four of which are revamped versions of those originally released for World At War. For a start it’s free to anyone that bought the Hardened and Prestige versions of the game, although if you didn’t – or you bought them second-hand – you can also download it for the usual 1200 Microsoft Points. If we never believed our own words before then after playing Rezurrection it seems even more bizarre to want to compare them.Although this seems to be the same basic deal as all the other Call Of Duty map packs it does work in a slightly different way to normal. More than once over the last few days we’ve made the point that Battlefield 3 and Call Of Duty have very little in common beyond being in the same basic genre.
